Phillies Trade Rumors
Yahoo sports is reporting The Philadelphia Phillies wanted Roy Halladay(notes) at the trade deadline. Five months later, in what might become the biggest trade baseball has seen in years, they appear to have landed him. The Wilmington News Journal is reporting "Just spoke to Oscar Suarez, the agent for utility infielder Juan Castro, and he said all that stands between his client and a deal with the Phillies is a physical exam. Castro is on vacation in Mexico and likely will take the physical next week. Philliesphandom.com is reporting So last week the rumors resurfaced that the Phillies are still trying to acquire Roy Halladay from the Toronto Blue Jays, and the memories of the hours leading up to the trade deadline in July relinquished. All throughout the middle month of the season, all the talk surrounding Major League Baseball was whether or not Toronto would stick to their word, and trade Halladay. Then general manager J.P. Ricciardi said that he would listen to offers for the right-hander at the start of the month, and Philadelphia had the need, and the financial flexibility to make a blockbuster. For a couple of weeks, Ricciardi played a game of chicken with the Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. as everyone in Ricciardi’s position would. Toronto was asking for the farm while the Phils weren’t willing to meet the demand. Mlb.com is reporting Let's catch up with where the Phillies stand as teams can sign free agents beginning Friday.First, some important dates to know: • The Phillies have until Dec. 1 to offer salary arbitration to their own free agents. • Free agents offered arbitration have until Dec. 7 to accept. • The Phillies have until Dec. 12 to tender contracts to their remaining unsigned players. ESPN is reporting Jamie Moyer's unhappiness with the Phillies over losing his spot in the rotation makes us wonder whether they might look to trade him during the winter to a team looking for a mentor for a young staff. And if they did, says an official of one NL team, there actually might be a market, even though Moyer would pitch at age 47 next season. Fox Sports is reporting The Phillies have reached agreement on a trade that would bring them left-hander Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco from the Indians for Class A right-hander Jason Knapp, Class AAA right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson, according to major-league sources. The deal, which does not include any cash, is pending a review of medical records. If completed, it will be a coup for both the Phillies and Indians. Espn is reporting There were more indications Wednesday that the Philadelphia Phillies' pursuit of Indians pitcher Cliff Lee is heating up. Mvn.com is reporting an article stating an their opinion on the Phillies and Halladay. The Phillies won their tenth straight game last night on the strength of a Jayson Werth home run; he now has 21 on the season. Raul Ibanez and Chase Utley are both hitting over .300, with more than 20 home runs and 60 RBI apiece. Ryan Howard has 24 blasts and just as many RBI as Ibanez and Utley. Shane Victorino is a .300 hitter and Jimmy Rollins's average is steadily climbing toward respectability.![]() SCOTT LAUBER of delawareonline.com reports that So, during our live chat today at www.delawareonline.com, some of you asked if the Phillies prefer to acquire a starter or a reliever before the July 31 trade deadline. Based on the conversations I've had with people close to the team, I offered my best guess (a starter). But what kind of beat writer would I be if I didn't take your question to Charlie Manuel before tonight's game. Manuel's answer: Both. Philly.com is reporting that the Phillies will be looking to add another pitcher before the Trade Deadline. Some of the Rumored trades have the Phillies picking up Roy Oswalt from Houston, Jake Peavy from SD, Brad Penny from Boston, Jason Marquis from the Rockies and Matt Cain.
