 | Would Halladay Rejoin the Jays? |
Sportsnet is reporting Halladay is a free agent after next season, and as much as he would love to hang around and win a World Series in Toronto, he’ll likely look elsewhere for a quicker shot at October ball. It is doubtful Halladay will seek the biggest pay-day. Instead, he’ll hook on with a team on the verge.
Can the Jays convince him to come back? Possibly, but it will take more than money. They’ll have to make a post-season push in 2010 to sway him. In the American League East, with an inexperienced rotation, that’s a lot to ask.
None of this concerns Alex Rios, and the Blue Jays must now deal with the very real possibility that he blossoms in Chicago. There are those within the organization that feel Rios has topped out as a 15 home run, 85-RBI outfielder with a strong arm and soft head. In short, they thought he'd belt 35 home runs, and paid him accordingly. He may still, just not here.
There's talent in there, and sometimes, he made it look effortless. But then Rios would stand in right field wondering what to do with a ball wedged in the padding (remember Milwaukee?) and the masses cried out to have him traded.
He wasn't traded; he was waived. And his departure leaves fans asking this: Are they cleaning the house or just shifting some furniture?
What do you think?
