1. Nationals looking to bring in Bobby Valentine Next Season
The Washington post is reporting that the Nationals are looking at bringing in former Mets and Rangers manager Bobby Valentine Next Season. Valentine has the remainer of this year under contract with Japans Chiba Lotte Marines.
Speculation in Washington is certain to focus on Bobby Valentine, the former Texas Rangers and New York Mets manager now in the final year of his contract for Japan's Chiba Lotte Marines, who appear unlikely to bring him back. Valentine has publicly acknowledged a desire to return to the United States, although it is unclear if the Nationals would be willing to pay Valentine what he is making in Japan (about $4 million), or if not, whether he would agree to a steep pay cut. Valentine, 59, declined comment in response to an e-mail message seeking to gauge his interest in the Nationals' job.

2. Victor Martinez wants to retire an Indian
Cleveland.com is reporting that given the choice Victor Martinez would retire wearing an Indians jersey. "I can't see myself in another uniform," said Martinez, during Monday's media session for American League All-Stars. "We'll see what happens."
Times are changing with the Indians. A terrible first half hasn't helped.
The Indians hold a $7 million club option on Martinez for 2010. After that he's a free agent. It would take a lot for the Indians to trade him, but the rumors are out there and they're persistent.
"It's not about me," said Martinez. "It's what they want to do. I'm open to anything they want to do. They hold the option [for 2010], but if they want to talk, I'll talk."

3. A's looking at draft choices for Holliday
Sports illustrated is reporting that due to the down turn in Matt Hollidays play in the past month the A's would be happy to pick up choices. The plan to shop him and recover what they traded to get him has gone awry. Holliday hasn't homered in 32 games now, and has just eight overall. The draft choices might be looking good now. "Billy (Beane) loves those draft choices, anyway,'' one competing executive said. The Mets, Braves, Cardinals and Giants have been tied to Holliday. But with no homers in more than a month, it doesn't look promising.

Alex Rios has big time upside but the drawback to dealing him could be the size of his contract. In a cash strapped economy $60 million remaining might be a drawback.
