Ellsbury could be done for the season

Jacoby Ellsbury is scheduled to return to Boston today and could be shut down for the season after his exam in Los Angeles with Dr. Lewis Yo***** revealed a possible rib fracture, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

 Cora in mix to manage Mariners

White Sox bench coach Joey Cora was linked to the Seattle Mariners' managing vacancy after the 2008 season before Don Wakamatsu was hired. Wakamatsu's dismissal Monday again has put Cora in the mix to take over the team next season.

Cora, who played for the Mariners from 1995 to 1998, declined to comment. But manager Ozzie Guillen, who has tutored Cora since making him part of his coaching staff in 2004, believes he's more than ready to take over.

 Zduriencik won't wait around to begin search for Mariners' next manage
MarinersThe Mariners, yet again in the market for a new manager after firing Don Wakamatsu, will have plenty of competition for the top candidates.

Numerous teams could have vacancies after the season. And so while Daren Brown on Monday was named interim manager through the end of the season, general manager Jack Zduriencik is not going to wait that long to begin the vetting process for a full-time manager.

 Erik Bedard progressing well, could return earlier than expected

    The Seattle Times is reporting The team is also pleased with progress made by Erik Bedard, who will throw an extended bullpen session of about 60 pitches on Friday. If he keeps looking strong, the team might also look to bump up his projected return from the target date of final week in May, where they are currently aiming.
