Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Lyle Overbay has cleared waivers and could be on the move according to an online report. Overbay was not in the starting lineup Thursday vs. the Red Sox as Adam Lind was scheduled to play first base.
Foxsports.com reported Thursday that a major league source confirmed the 33-year-old wasn't claimed by any teams. The report states that he would be a perfect fit in Tampa Bay where the Rays are hitting a just .215 in their last 19 games.

Infielder Fontenot obtained from Cubs
Mike Fontenot didn't have to travel far to become a Giant.
The Chicago Cubs' utility infielder was hitting in an indoor cage at AT&T Park on Wednesday afternoon when he was summoned to the manager's office and was told to switch uniforms. The Giants acquired Fontenot for minor league outfielder Evan Crawford.

| Cora in mix to manage Mariners |
White Sox bench coach Joey Cora was linked to the Seattle Mariners' managing vacancy after the 2008 season before Don Wakamatsu was hired. Wakamatsu's dismissal Monday again has put Cora in the mix to take over the team next season.
Cora, who played for the Mariners from 1995 to 1998, declined to comment. But manager Ozzie Guillen, who has tutored Cora since making him part of his coaching staff in 2004, believes he's more than ready to take over.

The Mariners, yet again in the market for a new manager after firing Don Wakamatsu, will have plenty of competition for the top candidates.
Numerous teams could have vacancies after the season. And so while Daren Brown on Monday was named interim manager through the end of the season, general manager Jack Zduriencik is not going to wait that long to begin the vetting process for a full-time manager.
